Invented by a Shaolin Nun during the sixteenth century, Wing Chun is a practical self defense system that uses the principles of sensitivity, redirection of force, and economy of motion. These principles make it possible to defend against an opponent who is larger and physically stronger.

Wing Chun was taught within families and between friends until 1950 when Ip Man moved from Foshan, China to Hong Kong and became the first to teach Wing Chun publicly.

Bruce Lee popularized Wing Chun through his movies such as "Enter the Dragon".  More recently, the "Ip Man" movies have helped wing chun become more well known.
